Twitter iOS Beta Update Hints at Future Bitcoin Integration
A new beta function on Twitter iOS allows tips for content creators, lays the groundwork for future bitcoin tips.
In the most recent beta update on Twitter iOS, the app introduces support for bitcoin content creator tips. The “Tip Jar” feature, introduced earlier this year, has coding which hints Twitter will roll out a BTC option.
Initially the Tip Jar allowed users the opportunity for Bandcamp, CashApp, Patreon, Paypal, and Venom extensions on their profile. In the near future, Bitcoin tips will be a possibility. Jack Dorey, CEO of Twitter, told investors that Bitcoin is important to the company back in July.
Additional details from the recent beta suggest that users will be directed through a tutorial. The bitcoin tutorial portrays details on the Bitcoin Lightning Network and various wallets. Currently, Twitter shows Strike, Blue Wallet and Wallet of Satoshi as custodial wallets and Muun, Breez, Phoenix and Zap as non-custodial wallets.
Moreover the social media platform tells users a Strike account is necessary. The text says it uses Strike for Bitcoin Lightning invoices. Therefore, if users want their tips, they must connect their Strike account.
Currently, there is no word on the official launch date of the Bitcoin option. The feature isn’t even available to all beta users at the moment. Nonetheless, it is a big step for the global community of Tweeters.
Twitter Continues Crypto Forward Moves
Over the last year, Twitter changed its tune on cryptocurrencies. At the beginning of the year the social media giant banned the voices of some crypto-forward influencers. Twitter is a haven for the latest crypto news and trends from the community. When Elon Musk simply tweets or changes his profile picture, coins jump or plummet.
Earlier this summer, the platform released its own series of NFTs. This followed the NFTs of Dorsey’s own Tweet NFT, which sold for $2.9 million.
Dorsey himself moved into an outwardly bullish position on crypto and developments out of the community. He spoke out on the impending SEC regulations and hinted at TwitterxLightning integration.
Most recently, the Twitter founder gave his follower more clarity on his upcoming decentralized BTC exchange.
